ONE MEMBER - ONE VOTE

Who’s running?

  1. Candidates may have profiles online at the AAUW website (www.aauw.org) These profiles may include a candidate-provided photo, biographical text, video clip, and links to additional information, including the candidate's own website(s), Facebook page(s), and other documents hosted elsewhere online, etc. This online candidate profile enables a rich multimedia experience for members to get to know candidates better and to explore additional online resources for candidate information.
  2. The Winter and Spring/Summer issues of AAUW Outlook will include candidate profiles and information on issues. Online information about candidates will be available approximately one month earlier than the AAUW Outlook mailing date. Members with Internet access are encouraged to share and discuss the issues and candidates at branch meetings and other forums of their choice.
  3. Candidates will be available for individual face-to-face discussions at convention.

Voting Options

Members will have two methods for casting their vote: They may vote online at the AAUW website, or they may use the paper ballot that will be mailed to them. Only the first ballot from each member received at national headquarters, whether electronic or paper will be counted.

The AAUW Board of Directors recommends voting online, because it is easier, more secure, and cheaper. It is also the only way to vote for a write-in candidate; there will be no write-in option on the paper ballots. Members who do not have access to a computer may seek the assistance of others to vote online.

Voting Process

  • Paper ballots will be mailed on April 15, 2011. Each paper ballot is personalized with the member's AAUW ID number and a PIN — these two identifiers provide security and ensure that each member's vote will be counted only once.
  • Online voting will take place from May 1, 2011, through 9 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, June 17, 2011. To vote, members will log in to the One Member, One Vote section of the AAUW website. Each voter must enter her or his Member ID and the PIN provided on the personalized paper ballot.
  • Electronic voting will be available at the convention, and help will be provided for those who want to wait to vote until they are at convention but need assistance with the process.
  • When the voter hits the send button to submit the online ballot, a confirmation notice will appear on the screen and may be printed to confirm acceptance of the vote. [Note that once the send button is clicked, the ballot is considered complete and cannot be changed.]
  • Paper ballots can be submitted by mail only and may be sent to the AAUW national office for scanning. Paper ballots postmarked after May 31, 2011, will not be accepted.
  • Members who choose to vote by paper ballot MUST use the ballot provided to them by mail, as it is personalized with their Member ID and voting PIN.
  • Paper ballots must be mailed; faxed ballots will not be accepted and will be discarded.
  • There will be no confirmation for receipt of paper ballots.
